Sibling rivalry

Not sure why but the last couple of days Lidie has been hitting Amaya. I know that sibling rivalry is normal, but hitting is just not okay. The bad thing is that Amaya usually ends up getting hurt, and sometimes on her leg or fixator. It's hard disciplining Lidie and staying rational. I can't get overly emotional because its her fixator, but have to stress to Lidie that she needs to be extra careful with Amaya's leg. At least Amaya knows better than to hit her younger sister, well most of the time. So today was full of many battles that I had to break up, guide through, mediate, and discipline. What a draining day. Fixators complicate many things, including sibling rivalry. At least they were both asleep by seven forty five so I got to read, watch a show and blog in peace.
At therapy today we worked with Jay again. Going into it I reminded Amaya that she would have a shorter session (thirty instead of forty five minutes) and that things would be a bit different (each therapists works differently), but to just do her best. Jay had her work in the adult gym today. After a few bends and stretches he took us into the peds gym so that Amaya could do her bends. Jay tried to give Amaya more time than she had last time to try to get to 100. since he only had thirty minutes to work with Amaya we didn't have time to do a lot of the fun stuff Amaya enjoys. But, her knee and muscles got the stretching they need, even though it wasn't very fun for Amaya or Lidie (Lidie would have much rather been in the peds gym). When Amaya started her bends she was in the fifties then started bending more. things seemed kind of off. She couldn't get her foot in a good position, she didn't have a good pace, she was crying and whining a lot. It was just off. She tried to get to 100, but was only able to get to 85 in the time she had. It was kind of frustrating and a bit of a let down, especially since she wasn't able to hit the minimum of 90 that we're suppose to get to every day. Jay felt bad for how much pain and discomfort she was in. I was frustrated because if she was put through pain I at least feel better when she hits her goals and then has some sense of accomplishment. Either way there's pain, but hitting her numbers makes it worthwhile, because I know its helping her knee and muscles. Jay praised her for working hard and gave the girls some candy from his own private stash.
After our therapy we headed over to Tia Amanda's to watch a movie and eat some ice cream. The girls had been wanting to watch The Mighty Macs. It's a true story about a female coach at a catholic all girls college. It follows the coach's and team mates struggle to break the mold of what a girl should do, be want, dream. It was a good movie but a bit over the girls heads. They were pretty squirmy and just played a lot thru it. But it was neat to see them playing air basketball after the movie in Amanda' living room.
Amaya's shower was a bit rough today, lots of sticking. But the bottom pins are looking a little better, so that's a nice improvement. Amaya only complained of minor discomfort today. Since dad was at a concert tonight I did the bedtime routine all by myself. I let Amaya watch a movie in my room while I put Lidie to bed. She picked Underdog. Its funny because every time she watches it I'm instantly reminded of her first surgery. That's the movie that she picked to watch in pre-op as she waited for her surgery time. Each time I think of that day, all the emotions, how it compared to this surgery, and how mature she is now compared to a year and a half ago.
Jay had Amaya work in the adult gym today. He had Amaya start by using the band. He had Amaya pull her leg back to try to bend. Then he put his hand behind her calf and had her push against his hands. Then he pushed her leg down to stretch the knee.
Then Amaya did some lunges.
Then he had her hold on to the table and try to sit down while keeping her foot down.

Next Amaya leaned against the table and Jay bent her knee up for her. He was able to get a pretty good bend but it was painful for Amaya.
