Yesterday we had our therapy session. Melissa asked Amaya how she did over the weekend with pain. Amaya said she had minimal pain. I let Melissa know that Amaya didn't need pain medication, a hot pad or her hip taped. Melissa was happy to hear that. I'm so glad the hip pain is gone. I asked Melissa if the pain could come back and she said that it usually doesn't. But if Amaya starts walking like she was and turning her leg inward then it could. So we need to make sure Amaya is working hard to keep her leg straight.
While Amaya was working Melissa said that since Amaya is "rocking it"we can talk about stopping our sessions. At this point we have eleven more sessions scheduled. Melissa said we'll finish off the month of February at two sessions per week then stop. So that means we only have seven more sessions left then we'll get a break! We'll come back on March 21st so Melissa can asses how Amaya did with three weeks off from therapy. Then if we need to we'll have three sessions left to use. And if need be Melissa can order more sessions. I told her that we still do our nightly physical therapy homework and she said that's helping Amaya a lot. So we'll continue to do that. I'm so excited and relieved. Its been a long journey, but its so close to being over.
Amaya started working with the ball. She bent her legs to push the ball forward and back.
Then Melissa had her lay her legs on the ball while lifting her bottom off the mat.
Then we headed out to the adult gym. Amaya worked on this machine again. Using her muscles to lift and lower the bar with control. She did really well.
Then Melissa had her jump on the trampoline in front of the mirror so she could see how she jumps. Melissa pointed out to her that she was pushing off on her right leg more and using it more than the left one. So Amaya corrected it.
Then Amaya worked on the elliptical. Melissa asked her if she wanted to do a set time or distance. Amaya picked time so she worked for five minutes.
After all three of those exercises Amaya was a bit sore so Melissa stretched her leg out for her.
Then Amaya did leg lifts. I could tell she was sore and tired because she had a hard time lifting her leg up very high.
Then her and Melissa leaned against the wall while doing squats.
Then Amaya started her knee bends. Her knee started at 117. She made her goal 135. She worked her way up to 124,129, then 131, 134 and before giving up she gave a last push to 135. She worked hard. All her hard work is paying off. The fact that she's been able to get up to 135 degrees is a big part of why she's able to stop therapy. Her hard work is getting rewarded!
