In the car today Lidie got quiet for a bit then sadly said, "I wish I was the sick one." I asked her what she meant, since Amaya is healthy. She added, "I wish I was the one who went to the hospital." I reminded her that she was in the NICU as an infant and was very ill. She paused then added, " I wish I was the one who had the fixator not Amaya." I asked her why and she said, "because I love her."
I'm not sure what made her think of it, but it was very sweet. After all this time she remembers all that Amaya went through and wishes it was her not her sister who had to endure it. What a sweet girl.
